Opening of the Final Planning Conference for the Command Centers Exercise in Algeria

Today, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, the works of the Final Planning Conference for the Command Centers Exercise commenced at the Regional Base in Jijel, Algeria. The conference is set to continue for two days. The opening ceremony was attended by the Planning Element Chief, the Regional Administrative Base Commander in Jijel, the Director of the Training and Excellence Center in Rouiba, Algeria, as well as delegations representing participating member states in the exercise.

During this conference, the exercise documents will be reviewed, including the exercise plan and specifications, which are of utmost importance as they will be officially adopted and endorsed. Furthermore, the exercise objectives will be validated.

Over the course of the following three days, a training phase will take place to execute the exercise. Tasks will be assigned to the responsible personnel, and efforts will be made to complete the headquarters and initiate activities during the mission from November 20 to 22, 2023. Subsequently, the official opening ceremony will be conducted by the Usage and Equipment Department Chief of the People’s National Army’s Barkan, Algeria, in the presence of the Executive Secretary of the Northern Africa Regional Power and invited guests representing military district and sector leaders. The exercise activities will span two days, during which the mission scenario will be simulated on the ground, and activities and hypothetical situations will be carried out at all command levels under the supervision of the exercise management. The response of each mission level will be monitored by the arbiters, and reports will be prepared, followed by discussions on the solutions adopted for these situations.

A delegation from the African Union will participate in the exercise evaluation. The delegation will visit the regional base in Jijel to assess the readiness of the regional components and review the progress of the exercise. This visit is part of the preparation by the Commission to declare the readiness of the region.
