The Northern Region hosts the workshop on validating the concept of strategic transportation for the African Union.

Today, on Monday, December 11, 2023, the events of the workshop on validating the concept of strategic transportation for the African Union commenced at the National Club of the People’s Army in Algeria. The opening ceremony was attended by the Chief of Planning Element for the North Africa Region, a representative of the African Union Commission, and delegations from participating regions and member states. The proceedings began with a speech by the representative of Algeria, the hosting country, delivered by the Director of Training and Excellence Center, who welcomed the attendees, appreciated these activities, and wished them success. This was followed by a speech by the Chief of Planning Element, who greeted the participants and Algeria for hosting the workshop, highlighting the active participation of the Northern Region in the Commission’s activities. The region previously hosted the fifteenth continental training workshop at the Egyptian Training Center for Peacekeeping Operations in Cairo, as well as two study sessions on terrorism, the first in Algeria addressing the use of cyberspace in terrorist activities, coordinated with the African Center for the Study and Research of Terrorism, and another session on counterterrorism in cooperation with the Egyptian Center. He also emphasized that the region strengthens its position and is ready, having recently received the verification team of the African Union Commission.

Representatives from the five regions and the African Union Commission participate in this workshop. Discussions were held on the presented document, which underwent extensive deliberation, and at the end of the workshop, it will be referred to the technical committee for approval. This document addresses all aspects of strategic transportation, including roles, responsibilities, and various transportation matters.
