Addis Ababa Summit: NARC Executive Secretary Engages in Extensive Meetings to Bolster Continental Peace and Security

The Executive Secretary of the North African Regional Capability (NARC), Mr. Ahmed El-Tagoury, concluded his successful participation in the African Union Summit meetings held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 12 to 16 February 2025.

During the summit, the Executive Secretary conducted numerous scheduled meetings and engagements on the sidelines of the main event. These activities were undertaken within the framework of strengthening cooperation, coordination, and highlighting the achievements made over the past year.

In a concerted effort to coordinate activities and exchange expertise and knowledge between the two African mechanisms (the North African Regional Capability – NARC and the Eastern Africa Standby Force – EASF), Mr. El-Tagoury held a meeting on the first day of the summit with his counterpart, the Executive Secretary of the Eastern Africa Standby Force, Mr. Paul Kahuria Njema, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting was also attended by NARC’s Liaison Officer to the African Union, Brigadier General Abdelrahman El-Rishi. The discussions focused on matters of mutual interest, the challenges confronting the operations of both mechanisms, and exploring avenues for collaboration and the exchange of expertise in the areas of peace and security maintenance on the continent.

On the sidelines of the summit’s second day, the NARC Executive Secretary met with Ambassador Salah Hammad, Head of the African Governance Architecture – African Peace and Security Architecture (AGA-APSA) Platform within the African Union Commission’s Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security, and his accompanying team. This meeting explored potential areas of cooperation and the provision of facilities and support for the implementation of several activities funded by the AGA-APSA Platform within the 2025 plan. These activities are to be carried out in collaboration and coordination with the NARC Executive Secretariat for hosting in NARC member states.
