In line with NARC endeavours to activate the role of youth in the region, NARC organized a workshop in Tunisia, 25-27 October 2022, to enhance the role of youth in the region, with the participation of delegates of all member states as well as NARC Executive Secretariat and the PLANELM.
The workshop opened with a speech by the representative of the Executive Secretariat, in which he welcomed the participating delegations, stressing the importance of items on the agenda, hoping for positive outcomes that would promote the role of youth in issues of peace and security in the region.
Representatives of NARC Member States also underscored the importance that their countries attach to the issue of youth and its role at various levels, highlighting youth programmes and activities that their countries have worked to achieve to advance the role of youth and empower them to contribute to the development and advancement of their countries.
In their speeches, member states’ experts affirmed their readiness to advance youth’s involvement in peace and security issues within the framework of NARC’s continental commitments in the context of the African Union’s Continental Framework, Youth, Peace and Security, and its ten-year plan of action.
The workshop concluded with a workshop report that included recommendations aimed at activating the role of youth at regional and continental levels.
It is to be noted that the workshop was attended by African Union experts, who made presentations on African Union youth initiatives geared towards activating the role of African youth in peace and security issues at national, regional and continental levels.
