NARC Planning Element organizes workshop in Algeria on pledges verification and standby arrangements


NARC Planning Element has organized a workshop, in Algiers, September 27-29, 2022, on the verification of pledges and the African Union Commission’s draft standby arrangements, with the participation of delegations of all member states, Planning Element and AU experts.
The workshop was opened by a statement by the Chief Planning Element, in which he welcomed again the participants from member states and AU experts, pointing out that the workshop aims to study the manual for verifying the pledged capabilities and the draft standby arrangements.
PLANELM Chief also made a presentation on the Verification Manual, addressing various aspects of the verification procedures outlined by the Manual which was adopted by the African Union. The AU expert, Mr. Eustace Chawombi, also made a presentation on the verification document, its background and its importance in contributing to the verification of the status of the forces.
Member states experts reviewed the manual for verifying the pledged capabilities of the African Standby Force approved by the STCDSS at its 12th regular meeting in Cairo on December 19, 2019.
The experts examined various aspects of this Manual, exchanged views on it, and recommended that it should be used as a guide in assessing the readiness of the components of the region and to determine the status of pledges of member states.
The experts also discussed the draft standby arrangements, highlighting several observations, and recommending a workshop at the AU level to which RECs/RMs, and member states should be invited.
