The Executive Secretariat of the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) participated in the African Governance and Peace Platform meetings, held in Accra, Ghana, from July 16-17, 2024. The two-day meeting brought together stakeholders to discuss the state of peace, security, governance, democracy, and human rights in Africa, as well as the importance of addressing these issues to establish a foundation for sustainable development.
The participating delegations presented their efforts to promote peace and security, and the African Governance and Peace Platform emphasized the challenges it faces, including a shortage of human and financial resources. The platform called for addressing these challenges to enable it to fulfill its role.
The delegations discussed the African Governance and Peace Platform’s priorities for the upcoming program, which will cover all topics relevant to promoting peace and security. The meeting was attended by the Special Envoy for Political Affairs and Security, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, the President of the July Security Council, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola, and heads of African organizations celebrating their 20th anniversary.
In his remarks, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye emphasized that the African Governance and Peace Platform is an African-owned platform that does not require partners and can facilitate the sharing and dissemination of best practices in a concise manner. He noted that Africa faces numerous challenges and conflicts, and it is essential for platform members to move from conference rooms to the field to work with African citizens.
The meeting concluded with a closing report summarizing the technical and political outcomes of the African Governance and Peace Platform.
