Conclusion of the meetings of the delegation of the SADC region in Tripoli

“On Friday, February 9, 2924, the bilateral meetings between the Planning Component of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Planning Component of the North African Region concluded at the planning headquarters in Tripoli. The meetings lasted for three days, during which views were exchanged and lessons and experiences in the field of peace and security were shared.

It is known that the Southern Region deployed two missions in support of peace. The first mission was in Mozambique, which lasted for three years and will end in July 2024. The second mission was in Congo, and it started its operations just about a month ago. Mr. Raymond Ndawandi, the Head of the Planning Component (the Chief of Staff in the region), reported that the Mozambique mission achieved its objectives, including the defeat and elimination of terrorist groups, the restoration of state control over the region, and the achievement of stability and peace.

The delegation presented comprehensive presentations on the two missions, the lessons learned, and the challenges faced by the region during the deployment. At the end of the meeting, a memorandum of cooperation was prepared between the planning components of the two regions. The Head of the Planning Component expressed gratitude to the visiting delegation and appreciated their thorough understanding of the region’s mission deployment procedures. The two heads of the planning components agreed to establish two communication points to exchange information and experiences in the field of peace and security.

At the end of the meeting, commemorative gifts were exchanged in the presence of the Executive Secretary of the Region, who expressed his appreciation to the delegation and presented them with the Secretary’s shield and some commemorative gifts on this occasion.”
